What is the purpose of the Minority Scholarship Fund (MSF)?

The Minority Scholarship Fund is a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose purpose is to grant scholarships to qualified non-Caucasians in order to enable them to study at Bob Jones University and to enable them to be prepared in the essentials of knowledge and the Christian faith.

How long has the Minority Scholarship Fund been in existence?

The MSF was started in 2000 and began providing scholarships in 2001.

Who oversees the Minority Scholarship Fund?

The MSF is governed by a three-member volunteer Board of Trustees, all of whom are themselves minorities. The volunteer board members are responsible for reviewing each potential grantee's application, interviewing each applicant, and determining which students are most qualified.

Who is eligible to apply for a scholarship from the Minority Scholarship Fund?

Students of African, African-American, Pacific Island, and Asian descent who plan to attend Bob Jones University are eligible to apply.

How many scholarships are generally granted?

Currently the MSF grants approximately 25 scholarships per semester. Our hope is that as the Lord continues to bless the Fund, the MSF will be able to give many more financial grants to students.

What is the typical scholarship grant by the Minority Scholarship Fund?

The MSF seeks to provide anywhere from $1,000 to $2,500 per student per semester, depending on the amount of funding available, the number of applicants, and each applicant's financial need.

What is the Minority Scholarship Fund's relationship with Bob Jones University?

The Minority Scholarship Fund is a separate, independent tax-exempt fund that was created by individuals who love the school, who are minorities themselves, and who desire to see more minority students enrolled at BJU to be trained for the service of Jesus Christ.

What can I give to the Minority Scholarship Fund?

You may give cash or any type of property to the MSF, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, real estate, or collectibles. You may also wish to include the MSF in your estate plans. Feel free to view the Giving Opportunities tab on this site for many giving options, or contact Daniel Hicks, the Board Liaison, for assistance.

How can I give to the Minority Scholarship Fund?

The greatest current need is outright gifts of cash or other property. However, the MSF is an excellent partner for a Charitable Remainder Trust, a Charitable Lead Trust, or for naming as a beneficiary under a Last Will & Testament, Living Trust, or life insurance policy. The MSF's Board Liaison, Daniel Hicks, can recommend an estate planning attorney in your area who can help you execute these or other documents. The Giving Opportunities tab on this site provides additional information regarding several giving vehicles through which you may support the MSF.

How much of my donation will go toward minority scholarships?

None of the board members receive compensation for their work. Other than printing, mailing, and other marketing costs which are incurred solely for the purpose of letting others know about the MSF, all donations are used to help financially needy minority students.
